General dermatology
The purpose of any general dermatology consultation is to assess and recognise skin symptoms and to analyse the correlations between the underlying causes and illnesses. A skin symptom may stem from an infection or an allergy, or may be of physical origin, though they may also arise through stress, inflammation, excessive sunbathing, inadequate nutrition or changes in the immune state of the body - to mention only the most frequent causes.
Skin symptoms may be associated with internal medicine, immunological, rheumatological, allergological or oncological diseases, as alterations to the skin often appear as markers of the above. Dermatology is a versatile science, and therefore not only well-trained clinicians, but also enormous experience and patient co-operation are required in the diagnosis of skin diseases.
